For us, board games have always been an important part of our lives – from family gatherings to late night board gaming tournaments with friends. As our love for board games grew, so did our collection, which started to become a problem.
After transporting our board games to our family and friends’ places and continuously having insufficient room for everyone, we decided to create our own space. One that would be perfect for playing board games with our friends – a casual environment with our favourite snacks and desserts – and of course, would accommodate our ever-growing board game collection.
Once we moved past our initial doubts and realized our idea could be attainable, we had to decide where the best location would be. Immediately, we both knew downtown Hamilton would be the right choice. With it’s unique offerings – Bayfront park, cycling trails, art crawls, the night life – we knew Hamilton had the potential to be even greater. And with the help of other small businesses, it made Hamilton feel less like a “big city” and more like a close-knit community.
Though we experienced many delays, we were triumphant and opened Hamilton’s 1st board game cafe in July 2013.
